Who's Blaming Leni?!

No one is blaming Leni. Leni is obviously a genuine and decent person. The blame goes to Mar and Noy for dragging her into this. The Robredos are a simple family. She didn't want to run but Noy and Mar persuaded her. Her daughters were reluctant too at first because they know how dirty politics is. If ever she wins, I just hope she rids herself of Noy's and LP's influence which can be very divisive.
Those who keep on blaming Marcos yet refuse to see Noynoy's fault, wake up. It's been 30+ years. Should we blame you for the sins your father and grandfather did? Yes it's easier said than done but we have to move on from that era. If you will use the same logic in all the World Wars and civil wars, coups, we will still be at war against Spain, Japan, USA etc. These countries have murdered and raped thousands if not millions of Filipinos but we have forgiven them and we have already moved on. We have rebuilt our relationships with our former oppressors and it has been favorable. We have a rich and colorful history and our past is part of who we are but we should not dwell in it. We should learn from it but we shouldn't be vengeful. We cannot achieve true unity if we are vindictive. It's never healthy to hold a grudge on someone, especially for something you didn't experience personally.
Bongbong has proven himself to be an effective leader. He pushed for the construction of the windmills in Ilocos which provides up to 70% of the northern grid's power and cut down the cost of electricity in the region. We gave an inexperienced son of Cory an opportunity to lead, why not give an experienced leader the chance to prove/redeem himself?

"Democrazy?"

Isa akong Martial Law baby.

Cyber Martial Law?!!

I've been reading about this a lot in the past few days and it seems to be the trending topic among blogsites and social networks. I must admit, I'm not an expert on this matter. I just want to understand it the best way I could, so feel free to correct me.

From the time the bill was authored and sponsored to the time it was approved and passed, some congressmen have denied voting 'yes' on the third reading and some senators even openly admitted to have 'overlooked' a part of the bill which they signed into law. I just want to put into words how I understood what I read from all over. Here is a summary of sorts.

To start of, the original bill included cyber-defamation as part of the Punishable Acts, however, that portion was removed by the House of Representatives and after the 3rd reading. Separately on the senate, they inserted the libel clause and as early as January 2012, they were on their 3rd reading. And since there were differences from the House's and Senate's version, a Bicameral Conference Committee was called for further reviews and reconciliation. (To further understand how a law is passed, click here.)

The Bicam then amended part of the bill for Real-Time Collection of Traffic Data and Restricting or Blocking Access to Computer Data which was intended for electronic crimes like Illegal Access, Illegal Interception, Data Interference, System Interference, Misuse of Devices(use, production, sale, procurement, importation, distribution or otherwise making available intentionally and without right), Computer Forgery, Computer-related Fraud, Computer-related Identity Theft, Cybersex, and Unsolicited Commercial Communications as mentioned in Section 4.

Unlike what most of the us know, the 'online libel' clause was inserted by Sen. Sotto on January 24, 2012 as per senate journal published by ABS-CBN News. And with this insertion it means that online libel would also be subject to Real-time Collection of Computer Data and Restricting or Blocking Access to Computer Data. The latter means that the government can block our access to certain websites like facebook or twitter, much like what the Chinese government does.

Unfortunately for us, the Bicam Committee decided to consolidate the senate version of the law. To top it off, the committee just recently lifted a part of Section 4 from the house version and inserted it as a completely new Section 6 into the RA 10175 and what we now know as the Cybercrime Law. It broadened the scope of the law which now states that "All crimes defined and penalized by the Revised Penal Code........shall be covered.......Provided, That the penalty to be imposed shall be one degree higher...."

So with the extraction of a part of Sec. 4 which was then inserted as Sec 6, does this mean, for example, if one was convicted of murder, and uses the internet to perpetrate his crime, one would be penalized under the Revised Penal Code and also with the Cybercrime Law even one degree higher? Doesn't that fall under double jeopardy?

And with Tito Sen's insertion of the online libel clause, isn't that suppression of our freedom to speak out? Not to mention, UN's declaration of internet freedom as a basic human right. Doesn't this contradict Section 4 of the Bill of Rights under the 1987 Constitution?

With this in mind, how was that law, with all the add-ons and insertions, ever signed and approved by our 'beloved' president? Has he no regard for the constitution and the people that he considers his "Boss"?

Wala lang. Nakiki-uso lang...

Responsible Parenthood, Informed Choice

HOUSE BILL NO. 5043

What's wrong about the RH Bill? The antis react to it as though it legalizes abortion. If you have read it, you will understand that it is about responsible parenthood, informed choice, education, and respect for life. RH Bill is NOT about abortion. It is about informing the people of their responsibilities and does not in any way consent the evil act of abortion. It is stated in the bill itself that it does not change the law on abortion, and abortion remains a crime which is punishable by law. What it says though is to ensure that the women seeking care for post-abortion complication be treated in the most humane, non-judgemental and compassionate manner.

Let's face it, the popoulation is continuously growing and it is directly related to the increasing rate of poverty in the country. Poverty highly contributes to illiteracy and criminality in children. More and more crimes are being committed by young children and teenagers and we cannot discount the fact that these kids lacked proper guidance from their parents. With the rationale that sustainable human development is better assured with a manageable population of healthy, educated and productive citizens -- this policy, if enacted and enforced accordingly, would help assure a chance of a better life for the future generation.

In reality, the government is trying to secure a healthier population for our country. We must understand that we also have a moral obligation to the people especially the youth who are deemed to be the hope of our nation. If we look at what is happening now, families with low or no income are the ones who bear more children. Those children grow up without proper nourishment and guidance since their parents are incapable of providing even their very basic needs. We see these children roaming the streets, selling sampaguitas and asking for alms at a very young age, working to bring food on their table. That is not the life that these kids deserve. If their parents have been educated enough to know the consequences of their actions they should have been aware of their responsibilities and not "use" their kids to earn a living. We all know that there are syndicates who exploit children in their crimes.

Its tiring to hear drama and litany from them saying their children are blessings from God that is why they make a lot. Enough of that! Yes, children are blessings and as such they should be treated with dignity and should be well taken cared for and not considered as money makers. But on the contrary, they let their "blessings" work, beg on the streets, steal from other people, and in some cases sell them for profit. Is that the kind of world we want for the underprivileged children?

Bottom-line, if you can't take care of them, don't make them. If a family does not have the capacity to rear children, then you should not have one. Don't be selfish. Think of the child that they will bring to this world if they themselves rarely have food to eat. It is easy to say that it is their right to have as many children as they want, then let the government or society help them out if they can no longer sustain them. That is morally unsound and unjust. As a friend once posted in facebook, "Cure the source and cause, not the symptom and manifestation."

For me, a drastic solution to this is to have the government control pregnancies by ligation or vasectomy of those who make making children their habit. Government should offer free maternity service for the poor, study each family and scrutinize their ability to raise and care for their kids. If a family is only capable of raising one child, then by all means do the necessary surgery after their first kid. But then again, i am not in the position to do so. Just my two cents.

Pa-Utang Namo!

Wow! Isnt't it IRONIC? Don't you think? A little too IRONIC. Yeah, I really do think!

Thinking mainly of profit na makukuha daw sa interest sa pautang, at siguro pasikat na din sa ibang bansa, Noynoy allegedly bypassed congress when he pledged to loan $1-billion to the IMF.

Law of supply and demand baga. Eh, bakit di na lang kasi gamitin ang perang ito for R&D at maka-imbento or discover ng alternative fuel or to build more schools and hospitals and businesses and small/micro businesses which would generate more jobs, ergo, no need to go abroad at mababantayan pa ng mga magulang ang kanilang pamilya at anak.

Chinkabawtit!
